Robert Bradley leaves the Jarrow shipyards in 1913 for a job in his uncle's furniture business. He soon finds himself at odds with his uncle and his teenage cousin Carrie. For solace, he escapes to the grounds of a dilapidated country estate where he meets the etheral Millie Thorman, locally known as "The Moth".
